Stress can impact our lives and our health on a physiological level. Stress can certainly cause our bodies to become out of whack. Our bodies were designed to work in balance all day long. When our stress levels become elevated, our bodies are thrown off balance. To understand how stress can disrupt our lives, we have to understand how our bodies can become unbalanced.
Our brain’s main function, the automatic alert system, is designed to help us learn to survive by our automatic response to stress, called “fight or flight”. Daily stressors, such as physical ailments, emotional problems, financial issues, work or school issues, and spiritual and social stressors, can easily activate our stress response. If we do not feel like we can handle any of these issues, our bodies immediately activate the “fight or flight” response.
Daily Stressors, Symptoms and Remedies
An increased amount of stress hormones is released when our bodies respond to the daily stressors in our lives. These stress hormones are designed to help our bodies get used to the brief, fleeting, and intense stressors that have suddenly disrupted our busy lives.
Elevated stress hormones can become a serious problem if acute stressors are allowed to turn into chronic stress. Chronic stress becomes serious when the body is out of whack for long periods of time, and is not allowed to reactivate, or get the rest it so desperately craves. Getting enough rest and relaxation will allow the body to function the way it is supposed to on a daily basis.
Learn what it takes to get your life back in balance. Talk to your doctor about how to better manage your stress and stressors and what you can do to eliminate them from your life. Meditation, listening to music, massage, guided imagery, deep breathing exercises, and energy healing are some well known holistic techniques you may want to try to help relieve you stress and help you get your body back in balance.
Learning different relaxation techniques to help us cope with our busy, stressed out lives can help to activate the relaxation response that our bodies possess. Activating the relaxation response everyday will help us to get our bodies back in balance and help alleviate our stress and stressors.
